چکیده

This case report describes a Mullerian serous adenocarcinoma arising within a multoloculated cyst lined by ciliated serous-type epithelium located in the sigmoid mesentery. Twenty years previously the patient underwent a hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and omentectomy. The ovaries contained bilateral serous cystadenofibromas, and multiple cysts lined by ciliated serous-type epithelium were present in the omentum. The resection specimen 20 years later contained a 14 cm multiloculated cyst located in the sigmoid mesentery. This was lined largely by benign ciliated serous-type epithelium but a focus of well differentiated serous adenocarcinoma projected into the lumen. Two further peritoneal cysts were present, both of which were lined by ciliated serous-type epithelium. There was a coincidental renal cell carcinoma. This is a unique case of multiple omental, peritoneal, and retroperitoneal cysts (classified as cystic endosalpingiosis), one of which developed a focus of serous adenocarcinoma. Although rarely serous adenocarcinomas, similar to those occurring within the ovary, arise in the retroperitoneum, this is the first reported occurrence in association with a pre-existing benign lesion.

Mesenteric Cystic Lymphangioma of Mesocolic Origin in a Three-Month-Old Infant: A Rare Differential Diagnosis of Abdominal Distension

Cystic lymphangioma is a rare benign tumour occurring during childhood. This tumour, caused by lymphatic system malformations, commonly occurs in head and neck regions. Herein, we report the case of a three-month-old male infant, diagnosed with a large cystic mass in the abdominal cavity and groin. The infant presented with low-grade fever and significant abdominal distension. Abdominal CT scan...

Cystic endosalpingiosis presenting as chronic back pain, a case report

A 48-year old woman presented with chronic back pain. Previous examinations had been inconclusive. Gynaecological examination revealed large cystic masses on the fundus uteri and left adnexa. Laparoscopy and histopathology showed unusually extensive cystic endosalpingiosis covering the serosa-coated uterine surface as well as the adnexa on both sides. After uneventful laparoscopic-assisted vagi...

Mesenteric cystic lymphangioma causing intestinal occlusion in an adult patient.

Cystic lymphangioma is a benign tumor of uncertain etiology characterized by a slow growth; in 2-8% of cases it is localized in the mesentery. Symptomatology is aspecific and preoperative diagnosis is often difficult. The Authors report the case of a mesenteric cystic lymphangioma in a patient who had undergone subtotal colectomy eight years earlier for an adenocarcinoma occluding the sigmoid c...

Florid cystic endosalpingiosis of the uterus.

A 73 year old woman presented with a right sided adnexal cystic mass. At laparotomy, this proved to be a benign serous ovarian cyst and an aggregation of thin walled subserosal and soft tissue cysts and spongy nodules up to 16 mm in diameter involving the side wall of the uterus and adjacent parametrium. These were removed by total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. His...

A rare case of giant extra-ovarian mucinous cystadenoma arising from sigmoid mesocolon

An 80-year-old female presented with one month history of acutely worsening abdominal distention and pain, without features of bowel obstruction. A giant intra-abdominal simple cyst, separate from the ovaries, was seen on imaging. Initial haematological and biochemical investigations, including tumour markers, were normal. At laparotomy, the cystic tumour was discovered to arise from the sigmoi...
